The Great Wall
高二(9)班 王宝林
I
have visited a place called Ba Da Ling. You'll be able to get a very clear
view of
the wall from there. Ba Da Ling is a hill about 1000 meters above sea
level. The Great
Wall runs along the ridge. It's a marvelous sight, just like a giant serpent
winding its
way over the mountains! It's really breathtaking.
It
runs all the way across the eastern half of China. Its length is about
6000
kilometers. That's why we China call it "Ten- thousand- li Long Wall".
Those
towers on the wall spaced at equal distances from each other are beacon-fire
towers. The Great Wall was constructed in ancient times to guard against
invasion by
nomadic tribes from the north. When people found enemy troops approaching,
they would send
smoke signals from the tower as an alarm. When the guards in the neighboring
tower saw the
signals, they would do the same. In this manner, the signals would be
relayed to the
capital. Ancient Chinese were real great.
"He
who doesn't reach the Great Wall is not a real man." is an ancient
China saying.
Today, I'm a real man.
If
you look into the distance, the Great Wall looks like a giant dragon and
the
mountain ranges are like a vast sea; the giant dragon seems to rise and
fall, twisting and
turning in the seething waves. The surrounding view also makes one feel
so relaxed and
happy. But it was no easy job for the ancient people to complete such
an engineering feat.
In the construction of the Great Wall, a great number of labores lost
their lives. The
story of "Meng Jiangnu Weeping on the Great Wall " took place
here.
The Great Wall is very great, it contains lots of things. If you have
a chance, you'd
better go and see the Great Wall. And become a true man.
